ICEAGE
I find comfort in sweat. It’s the by-product of exertion. The sign of a good time.
I was beyond elated to find out that the Danish punk quartet, Iceage, was making their way through the Bay Area while touring for the release of their 2018 LP Beyondless.
In 2011, Iceage’s LP, New Brigade, found its way into me. It didn’t take long for me to realize what they were all about. White Rune’s relentless drumming, wall-of-sound guitar build-ups, a buzzing, pounding bass, and deep, angry angry vocals worked in tandem to produce tones and energies of goth, noise-rock, and post-punk.
Their following 3 albums did not fail to bring the same energy that I fell in love with as soon as You’re Blessed closed New Brigade.
On this night, I knew what I was in for, and I was fucking ready.
It wasn’t take long before the sweat seeped out of our collective pores. We showered one another. We pressed our bodies together and flung ourselves back into the void from whence we came.
We were ingesting Iceage’s heart and soul and projecting it back out in an adaptation made of flesh and fluids. An orgy of sorts.
From the middle of the pit, the whole world was there. Releasing the frustrations of the every day. Stomping. Shoving. Screaming. Loving.
That night, I wore the sweat of the whole world, and mine on them. We left The New Parish with satisfaction stamped on our faces, and bruises on our bodies. I still haven’t washed the shirt I wore that night.
From me, to Iceage: tak.
