Hates Me
OTHERLiiNE
Hates Me is one of two singles currently released by a new production duo called OTHERLiiNE, consisting of George Fitzgerald and producer Lil Silva. This track is multi-tiered pagoda stretching into the sky encircled by airy chants and colorful pads. The track is supported by a buoyant house backbeat that propels ever upwards, lending urgency during breakdowns and meshing seamlessly with the abundant layers of synths and drum machines.
We’re new to the work of Lil Silva, although his list of collaborators is quite impressive: he’s touched tracks by Banks, Adele, Mark Ronson and Diplo. We are however quite familiar with George Fitzgerald. This track stands out from the latter’s minimalist discography by means of its complexity and brightness - vocals are collaged and compounded and the track builds continually with only one minor break from the momentum. The effect is an energizing, sometimes dizzying kaleidoscope of a track that evokes rich hues and fiery passions.
While the bulk of Hates Me’s power comes from its production and instrumental or abstract elements, the simple repeating verse-chorus fortifies the emotional weight of the track.
“Another scene when those angels leave
And now suddenly we're all crying, crying, oh
You can't feel all those silent screams
Or those ones in need but surviving here”
I’m personally overjoyed at the discovery of a new avenue by which to appreciated Fitzgerald’s work, and rest assured I’ll be looking into Lil Silva as well. OTHERLiiNE seems to be a project worth keeping tabs on.

Chimes
OTHERLiiNE
If I had an ass with which to twerk, I would one-hundred percent twerk to OTHERLiiNE's Chimes.
Zach and I have obsessed over George Fitzgerald over the last year or so, specifically his 2015 LP, Fading Love and his 2018 LP, All That Must Be. His collaborations with artists such as Bonobo, DJ Seinfeld, and Mr. Vegan himself (Moby), speak to his musical prowess and the space that he has carved out for himself within the electronic music scene. His music is engaging, thought-provoking, and honestly, his output is pretty emotionally charged music that can either make you sulk or perspire. We stan.
Chimes is an interesting departure from George Fitzgerald's signature sounds. It’s an effervescent piece of music that penetrates your nervous system and coerces you to move your body. Its overall nature is dynamic but punctuated with mellow bridges that allow you to take a beat, catch a breath, and continue whipping your sweaty self around the dance floor. While Lil Silva has collaborated with George Fitzgerald before (namely on the 2018 track, Roll Back, and a few tracks off of the All That Must Be (Remixes) album), I’m genuinely excited to see where this duo go from here. It’s promising. I’d even go as far as to say that it’s arousing.
Throw this on if you want to sweat out the mundanity of the work week, and celebrating the coming of Friday. Stay weird!
