TYCHO
Following the release of their fifth studio album, Weather, Tycho announced a surprise pop-up show at The Independent last Tuesday in San Fransisco.
To be completely honest, I was weary about attending since the new album didn't exactly blow me away. Moreover, a $35 ticket with $15 service fees was also discouraging me from taking the leap. But I stopped and reflected on the previous 9 times I have seen them live, realized I had to go, and slapped myself in the face for ever considering otherwise.
Listening to their albums through your favorite pair of headphones in the comfort of your own home is a wonderful experience in and of itself. Seeing them live in truly something else. It's beyond a concert. It's an audiovisual journey through rainy forests, California coasts, and abstract hallucinations.
Last Tuesday's show was no different.
Tycho played two sets. The first consisted of tracks from Past is Prologue, Dive, Awake, and Epoch. The second set was Weather, start to finish. And with that, it was the first time that the latest addition to the band, Saint Dinner, made her first appearance on stage with Tycho.
Needless to say, it was a treat. The inclusion of vocals in their live performance (despite the divisive lyrics) was a beautiful melding of Tycho’s signature sound and the effervescent vocalizations of Saint Sinner.
I vow to always catch Tycho live whenever they’re playing in the Bay. I’ve yet to be disappointed, and I know you won’t be either.
